Thank you. And the Chin and Smith novels give your readers an escape from the daily drama of ignorance and hatred. At 68, I get to rebound for my 16 year old son who can really shoot it. And the Knicks are fun to watch and I still enjoy my trips from NJ to Broadway. One day at a time.

He will. And I can shoot it, too. But a jump shot at 68 from 3 is a lot different from 50 years ago at Monsignor Farrell in Staten Island. Be well.

One day, one more shard of joy in the world, at a time. (Get the kid to rebound for you sometimes!)

Thank you. The Empire State Building lit for MLK gives me hope. I appreciate seeing that. Petra and Mo are precious.

SJ Rozan's avatar

Petra and Mo agree with you.

SJ, you mentioned Robert Reich, Indivisible, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Planned Parenthood, Fair Fight, and IfNotNow but forgot my hero: Heather Cox Richardson. Okay, so HCR doesn't request petition signing but she is my guiding light. Great blog by the way.

I’m following your lead, Teach. And thank you for showing the way as always.

I don't know if we can win this, but I know we can keep fighting.

I like this. I've been thinking about Substack since I keep getting locked out of other venues. I can't be changing passwords every five minutes! You are the first one I've subscribed to. Thanks!

Thank you for weaving us into this web. Last night we went to a Holly Near / Dance Brigade performance in SF--the dancers are a new generation, and Holly's voice is still strong. I'm hoping that the population hasn't gone completely mad. Meanwhile, we can keep reaching out in solidarity and relay messages of sanity--truth and clear thinking.

I'm with you my friend. Especially reading books because it does keep me outta trouble. Than you for this post, it does add to my hope for us all.

Nothing's gonna keep you outta trouble, girl. Good trouble -- go on out and make it!

You are the best (at putting into words the thoughts that are running around in my head) and I am with you, as always.

It’s times like these, and people like you, that makes me wish I still lived in NYC.

Venceremos back at you. Onward.

(Very cool about the Empire State Building.)

Thank you for this post. We all are trying to figure this out and find ways forward. The power of writing and art to sustain us during this time is powerful. Be well. Thanks for your words and the views of life that bring us to both confront the need for integrity and the need to find hope.

Everything you described as a way to get through this awful period is inspirational. One correction, however. I disagree that the red, black and green colors on the Empire State Building has anything to do with MLK or as a slight directed at Trump's victory. Those are the colors of the Palestinian flag which I assume is a statement of support for Gaza.

SJ Rozan's avatar

No, I checked the Empire State Building website to make sure what I was seeing. They say it's for MLK Day.

Thank you, SJ. You are not alone. Millions of us will be standing with you.

And I with you.

There is no shortage of villains, but I have two. 1) Merrick Garland, who put the Trump prosecutions on the back burner for two years to prove he was bi-partisan. The result is Trump walked and Jack Smith is gone. 2) Elisabeth Warren, who in her misguided anti-crypto war, turned the subject into a partisan fight. The largest amount of campaign cash in the election came from the crypto bros, and it almost all went to Republicans. They provided the margin of victory for Trump. He wouldn't have won without them. So being a Luddite has its costs.

SJ... at 86, I currently have lost my will to fight! Also I live in a rural community where it is not unusual to see Confederate flags along with large Trump signs and/or flags... through my interpretation, they want the South to rise again, and with it all the power of the white males! When you put the white males on a pedestal, that leaves the rest of us somewhere below..... maybe many levels of below! Reading through his executive orders excuted yesterday, the ones that bother me the most are the ones dealing with diversity.... when we take away a chance for a leg up, that will affect generations. And can anyone explain to me why the good Christians of this country supported a man who exhibits the opposite character of their Jesus?
